The 2-1 Weekend Continued

As I mentioned before, the weekend was full of ups and downs. Obviously the crash-landing end to the match was not very much fun. Erik, one of our starting middles and the self-dubbed "most beautiful player in all of Vingaker," rallied me to go out with him that night to a friend's house for a couple drinks. I had an excellent time hanging out with a group of Swedes who were so excited to practice their English and "learn me some Swedish too." I corrected them, or course.

It was all fun and games until I had to wake up the next morning to go with the Division 1 team (the younger team in our club "VVK" that plays other Division 1 teams all around Sweden). I am to be their "coach" whenever our matches don't conflict. Obviously, this is TONS of fun for me, particularly the 4-hour days in the van with guys who are all afraid to talk to me. The highlight though was that I feel I was actually able to contribute some good coaching to help our team win in straight sets 3-0. The roller coaster is on it's way UP!

Saturday night was to be THE night in Vingaker. Tarik (I'll be updating the site with pictures and profiles of all of my friends here shortly - but Tarik's our opposite, the Bosnian hotel owner's son and my next door neighbor. He calls me Pauly) is the man in Vingaker and he was hosting a party in the bar in the basement of the hotel. I played bartender with Dave and Tarik and had a BLAST. We were able to pour pretty stiff drinks and give a few freebies here and there so naturally the crowd loved us. The whole team was there and all the new friends I've made so we drank and danced the night away. Such a great, rowdy group of kids, most about 20 years old (the legal drinking age). The rollercoaster about hit its peak here and then took a dip about 2am when none of the guys were able to find any nice young lady to take home. They were no fun after that and we all went to bed sad.

What was worse was when the guys all woke me up the next morning to go with them to Orebro to watch the women's team play. Tobey, our other middle and the team's "responsible one" has a girlfriend on the team. They live together in Orebro. They lost the match as I sat with a grumbling tummy from both hunger and....well....I was out all night drinking, so I won't mention any further details. Afterward we watched the "futbol match" at Tarik's brother Vildan's place, then visited some of the girls on the Orebro volleyball team. We're talking LARGE and in CHARGE! So up and down, up and down, the weekend was filled with highs and lows, busy times and lazy times, wins and losses. I'm making friends and having a good time, keeping busy, but thoroughly enjoying my down time. More to come...
